We Believe
Our Worship
The word “worship” means more than the singing part of a church service. Worship is all that we do to bring glory and praise to God. All of our worship is rooted in and done according to the Word of God.
Our preaching is expository, meaning it comes from the Bible as the Bible directs. Preaching, too, is worship, as it ought to help respond to God’s goodness and glory revealed in his Word. In the same way, our teaching ministries come from the Word and seek to deepen our understanding of God’s work in our world.
Our music includes traditional hymns, classic praise songs, and more contemporary picks.
God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that God so loved the world that He sent his only son to save us from our sins. As part of the Christian & Missionary Alliance, we agree with the Alliance Statement of Faith and teach the Alliance distinctives found in the Fourfold Gospel. This means we teach that Jesus is:
Savior
The Name of Jesus has impacted lives around the world for more than 2,000 years. He is a universal Savior, promising that: “whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Jesus is an exclusive Savior. “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name in heaven given to men by which we must be saved” Acts 4:12. Contrary to what contemporary culture tells us, there are not multiple paths to God. There is only one—Jesus Christ.
Sanctifier
At the point when we are born again, we become members of God’s family. We believe He paid the price for our sin and that his followers are made holy because of what Christ has done. Jesus wants to clean us of our sins, not just in the future in heaven, but even now. We join with Jesus in fighting against sin in our lives as the Holy Spirit works in us.
Healer
A great portion of Christ’s time was dedicated to healing the sick. He healed all kinds of people: the blind, the paralyzed, the lame, the deaf, lepers, those who had fevers, and many with chronic illnesses. We find no record in the gospels of Jesus turning away anyone who came to him for healing, nor do we find that any disease was too difficult for him to heal. He even raised the dead. Miraculous healings still occur today—evidence that Christ is still our Healer.
Coming King
The physical return of Jesus has been the subject of speculation and controversy since His ascension into the clouds, which is recorded in the New Testament Book of Acts. Knowing that countless millions still have not heard the gospel, The Alliance is committed to doing its part to complete Christ’s Great Commission before His imminent return.
Our Ministry
We follow Jesus and long to be transformed into His image by the Spirit & Word at work in our lives. Through this process we make disciples by lovingly proclaiming and living the Gospel of Jesus the Messiah in Winston Salem and across the world.
We believe every church has a different area of critical impact. Our unique calling is First Alliance is to seek out the unloved, isolated, and broken to join us in the family of Jesus. We do this by
a) Intentionally going out into our communities to find the unloved, isolated, and broken
b) Working with church and community resources to achieve stability and self-sustenance
c) Connecting everyone in a smaller group context where they can grow together in affection for one another and for Jesus.
The body cares for itself, for its needs and hurts. So the church watches out for one another, cares for one another, and seeks to bless one another as we strive for unity and growth in holiness. As Paul writes in Ephesians 4: “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”
The Christian and Missionary Alliance
The Alliance is global family of people who love Jesus and want to invite others to love him as well. Born of a Christian holiness society and a missionary movement (both founded by a man named A.B. Simpson), The Alliance has been faithfully sending missionaries, starting churches, and making disciples for over 100 years. We continue to support the work of missions to all nations! We have a few resident international workers attached to our church whom we love and support. We also host an annual missions weekend focused on our missions work, with guest international workers from all over the globe. Look for this festival each Fall!
At the regional level, we are part of the Alliance South, a district of churches throughout the Southeastern United States. The Alliance South District supports local church planting, ordains and oversees ministers, and handles all questions of discipline for pastors and leaders.
